The Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (DOEM), implements the Department of Preventive Medicine clinical program and has the major role in its disease prevention mission. Occupational and Environmental Medicine is a new and rapidly growing medical field that seeks to study how occupation and environment affects one's health with an emphasis on prevention. |
The mission of the Division of Occupational & Environmental Medicine, University at Stony Brook, New York is to protect the health of Long Island workers through the identification of risks in the workplace, management and prevention of occupationally and environmentally related health disorders. Essential to this mission is the provision of the most comprehensive health service that addresses the needs of Long Island workers, their families and communities. |

Become the region's main source of specialized occupational and environmental care provision and education and a center of excellence. This goal will be realized through vocal and effective outreach efforts, expanding preventive and clinical programs, and assuring access to high quality health care to all, particularly workers engaged in high risk occupations and undeserved populations and those living in close proximity to environmentally hazardous areas. |
