About Us

The mission of the Center for Infectious Diseases (CID) at the State University of New York at Stony Brook is to:

  • conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary research in the areas of infection and host response to infection;
  • train predocteral and postdoctoral students, as well as medical residents and fellows in infectious disease research;
    and
  • foster academic interest in infectious diseases through seminars and colloquia at the interface of basic and clinical research in this area.

Located in a new state-of-the-art research facility, the Centers for Molecular Medicine (CMM), the Center has direct links to the other interdisciplinary programs housed in the research tower: Center for Structural Biology, Center for Developmental Genetics, and Center for Cancer & Cancer Genetics, the research arm of the Cancer Institute of Long Island. The laboratories of the Center for Infectious Disease are located on the second floor of the CMM, have three high risk biological containment suites, and is fully equipped for all phases of microbiological work. The focus of the research of the Center is on the basic mechanisms of pathogenesis of infection using the latest molecular, cellular and immunological techniques.
